The orc warlord stood upon the edge of the bridge and shouted a guttural challenge to the soldiers hiding behind their barricades.

The orcs had come three weeks ago, first assaulting the outer towers before making their way to the main city. They'd overwhelmed the city walls within a manner of hours, bringing siege towers and a host of massive giants from the northern mountains. They controlled most of the city now, and it was burning.

What remained of the populace had fled across the river, congregating in the commons, a forced union of the rich and poor temporarily made equal via circumstance. The orcs cared little for how the humans were dressed. The all died just the same.

A contingent of soldiers had rallied at high bridge, keeping the orcs at bay as they looted and burned the buildings. The few orcs that had made it across the river were being corralled and executed. It was time to make a stand.

Evenkebaum, a Captain of the Northern Legion, was now in charge of the effort, and it was he who trod forward into the fire and smoke of the bridge to answer the orc's challenge. Unsheathing his blade, he drew a line across the cobbled stone of the bridge and raised his blade toward the orc warlord, his face a mask of stoic indifference, though his message clear.

Come, if you dare.

The warlord split a feral grin and bellowed orders to the horde of orcs behind him. One of them lifted a horn to its lips and blew deep and low.

The orcs had accepted the challenge.

This is a battle map representing an assault upon the city, whether it be external or internal. The damage could be form an invading force, or from an unhappy mob that has taken to looting and pillaging in response to some decision from the crown.

The map provides two sides of a river, with several points of cover, limited mobility and other conditional effects (i.e. fire, smoke, visibility) that could make for interesting encounters.
