Welcome to Grizzly Hills!
It is not a coincidence that this shares the name with one of my favorite zones in World of Warcraft. I was listening to background music on YouTube and came across a series of music offerings with visuals and music from all of the various zones of WoW. I've included a concept image from Midjourney to help set the scene.
Grizzly Hills was one of my favorites, with the combination of pine trees, foothill mountains and winding rivers. It immediately gave me an image in my mind of something I wanted to create, and I decided to couple it with one of my favorite series, Vikings.
Thus -- Grizzly Hills Village was born.
This could be a stop along the way, the source of an adventure similar to 13th Warrior, a starting town for your norse/viking inspired campaigns or simply part of the backdrop of your game world to make it feel more immersive. 😊
The map doesn't depict the entire village, but provides several different areas of interest that should give you a lot of opportunities for social and/or combat encounters, as desired.
11 of the 19 buildings have interiors to explore, and I may release a follow-on maps with additional interiors in future weeks. As usual, I've tried to provide a variety of options by way of pathing, elevation, soft and hard cover and some obstacles and/or chokepoints (i.e. river and bridges).
Among the building interiors included are:
Stables - Located at the southeastern part of the village, this large stables accommodates many of the animals kept by the village, including both horses as well as reindeer.
Brewery - North of the stables is a brewery, where the local brewer experiments with various ingredients and other factors to create ale, mead and other spirits.
Hut #1 - West of the brewery is a small hut, providing beds for [2] individuals, which could be the home of the brewer, the stablemaster or simply a norse family.
Guard Tower - Located north of the first hut, this tower stands atop a rise in the foothills, giving sight lines to all of the buildings and some elevation against attacks from the south. Near the tower are a couple of posts affixed with rope for tying up criminals awaiting justice.
Blacksmith - On the small rise on the right side is a blacksmith, forging both weapons and shields, as well as horseshoes, pots and other domestic products for the village.
Storage - Next to the blacksmith is a large storage hut, where the village keeps many of their dried food, barrels of ale and other communal supplies.
Hut #2 - Located on the western side, this hut has a couple beds and a small farm of goats, belonging to a local farmer.
Hut #3 - Located northeast of the 2nd hut, this hut belongs to a powerful hunter of the village that spends much of their time tracking and bringing down local game for food and pelts.
Shaman's Hut - Northwest of the 3rd hut is a large structure dedicated to the village's shaman, who has a strong tie to the eagles and is rumored to have strong clairvoyant capabilities.
Warrior's Hold - At the far northwest part of the village stands a large building, home to the warriors and leader of one of the local factions. It also features a jail cell, should you wish to use the village for a rescue/escape scenario.
Feasting & Leader's Hall - At the far northeast part of the village stands a massive longhouse that serves as the communal feasting hall and home of the leader of this village. In addition to the hall, a private bedroom and office can be found, for the Thane/Jarl to meet with villagers, visitors and other entities.
Cave - A large cave lay behind the feasting hall, which can serve whatever purpose you may want to provide -- the lair of a large bear, mushroom cave for food, a passage through the mountain, etc...
I hope you enjoy it and can find some good adventure to be had in these hills!
